Join: Self-Organised PhD Group - Gender, Diversity & Global Justice Platform

The Gender, Diversity, and Global Justice Platform is aware like no other about all the great expertises and different disciplinary projects that are researched at Utrecht University under the guise of these three major themes.

The self-organised PhD group is an interdisciplinary consortium that organises a range of meetings to bring together research from different disciplines around the theme of gender and diversity. Over the past year, the group has organised seminars, peer-to-peer feedback sessions, and writing retreats.

In 2026, the following thematic meetings are planned:

  • February (23/02): Introduction to Post- and Decolonial Approaches to Research by Vinícius Fonseca
  • March (23/03): Introduction to Feminist Fieldwork Practices by Melissa Ainseba
  • April (20/04): Introduction to Justice Theories in Transition Studies by Anna Stepanyuk
  • May (18/05): Introduction to Queer Theory by Fleur Renkema
  • June (29/06): Introduction to Visual Ethnography by Trisha Mohan

Financial support can, among other things, be used to organise events and seminars or to facilitate study groups with catering, but other suggestions are more than welcome.

Whether you are a new PhD or postdoctoral researcher at Utrecht University, further along in your trajectory, or a visiting PhD/postdoc scholar, everyone is welcome. Please send an email to IOSgenderanddiversity@uu.nl with a short introduction to your project and disciplinary background. Registration is open year-round. Please note that affiliation with Utrecht University is required.
