How have international relations of power and influence changed throughout time?
History is always based on uncertainty: concepts such as meaning, truth, and order are seen differently at different times, and in different places, by different people. We recognise this, and use this variety of perspectives to work and teach at the cross sections of issues such as peace and diplomacy, power and influence, environmental governance, decolonisation, war, violence, terrorism and technology.
We study bureaucrats, government officials and diplomats, but also, and overwhelmingly so, investigate ‘non-state actors’: missionaries, rebels, militias, gangs, corporations and merchants, NGOs and activists, consumer networks, victims and perpetrators of mass violence, right-wing extremists, and pirates.
