At Utrecht University, researchers from all academic disciplines collaborate to generate a long-term, historical and philosophical perspective on current societal developments that are related to the production of scientific knowledge. Our research focuses on the history of the Western knowledge society since the 17th century, the philosophical foundations of knowledge, and analysis of fundamental scientific theories. We are also active in research and teaching about science policy, interdisciplinarity, and scientific integrity.
Our researchers work in all departments of the university; they are united in the Descartes Centre for the History and Philosophy of the Sciences and the Humanities.
We have a dedicated research master programme: History and Philosophy of Science.
We also offer a variety of bachelor courses in history and philosophy of science.
