Postdoc opening

The Vlaming lab has an open postdoc position. We are looking for someone with a background in gene regulation, who has obtained or is on track to obtain a PhD with a first-author publication/preprint in a relevant field, who can work independently and in a team, and is proficient in academic English (spoken and written). If that sounds like you, get in touch by emailing Hanneke (h.vlaming(at)uu.nl) your motivation and cv.

Employees

  • Hanneke started as a group leader in 2023 after completing a postdoctoral fellowship in the Adelman lab at Harvard Medical School. She is an expert in transcription regulation and advanced screening and nascent transcriptomics methods. Hanneke cares about mentoring young scientists inside and outside the lab, and encourages people to take charge of their professional development. She believes the lab will be the most fun AND produce the highest quality science if its members are happy, inspired, and their full selves.
  • Nathalie carries out experiments in the lab (currently working on INSERT-seq experiments), but is also critical in ensuring our lab runs smoothly.
Nathalie performed PhD research at the Department of Molecular Genetics at the Erasmus MC, Rotterdam, working on SMAD3 mutations.
  • Ilse is a PhD student in the lab, working to identify specific regulators of non-coding versus coding transcription, particularly at the transcription elongation level.
Ilse studied at Utrecht University, and has cum laude degrees in Veterinary Sciences (BSc) and Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences (MSc).
  • Kexin is a PhD student, and works to better understand the mode of action of protein regulators of early termination.
Kexin obtained her BSc degree from the China Pharmaceutical University in Nanjing, before coming to Utrecht for Biology in Disease master's program, for which she also did an internship at the ETH in Zurich. She gained some experience a technician in a biotech startup in Shenzhen before returning to Utrecht to start her PhD with us.
  • Valentine is a PhD student who will apply a combination wet-lab and bioinformatics to better understand the role of elongation factors.
Valentine obtained her BSc and MSc degrees at Utrecht University, during which she completed several internships, including in the labs of Jeroen de Ridder (UMCU) and Thomas Quail (EMBL). She spent some additional months in the Quail lab as a research assistant, before joining us here in the Vlaming lab.
