Severin Uebbing, PhD - group leader
Severin started as a group leader in 2023. He did his PhD at Uppsala Universitet and a postdoc at Yale University in the lab of Jim Noonan. He is fascinated by the diversity of life and studies the role of gene regulation in the evolution of mammals.

Xue Bao, PhD - technician
Xue started as a technician in Genome Biology & Epigenetics in 2022, after receiving a PhD in chemistry from UU. She divides her work between Hanneke Vlaming's and Severin's labs. With Severin Xue works on generating iPS cells from diverse mammals, and on perturbing enhancers in mammalian cell models.

Alexandra Bosch - PhD student
Alexandra completed both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Biomedical Sciences at Maastricht University and joined the lab in 2025. In her project, she investigates functional consequences of sequence evolution in gene regulatory elements.

Lara Everts - MSc student
Lara received her Bachelor's degree in an international programme in Cell Biology, Genetics, Microbiology and Physiology from the University of Rennes in 2024. She is currently enrolled in a double-degree programme shared between the Universities of Rennes and Trieste, and is visiting our lab for her second MSc internship. In her project, she explores the gene regulatory landscape of Hes1 in mouse embryonic stem cells.
Laurens-Willem Janssen - MSc student
Laurens received his Bachelor's degree in Bioinformatics from the University of Applied Sciences Leiden (Hogeschool Leiden) in 2023 and is now enrolled in the Bioinformatics and Biocomplexity MSc programme at UU. In his project, he explores the origins of human enhancer sequences in the primate tree-of-life.
