Severin started as a group leader in 2023. He did his PhD at Uppsala Universitet and a postdoc at Yale University in the lab of Jim Noonan. He is fascinated by the diversity of life and studies the role of gene regulation in the evolution of mammals.
Xue Bao, PhD - technician
Xue started as a technician in Genome Biology & Epigenetics in 2022, after receiving a PhD in chemistry from UU. Since 2023 she works with Severin on generating iPS cells from diverse mammals, and on perturbing enhancers in mammalian cell models.
Yosun Amber Kaya - MSc student
Yosun received her Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences with a major in Biological Sciences from UU in 2021 and is now enrolled in the Regenerative Medicine & Technology MSc programme at UU. In her project, she investigates de novo enhancer evolution in primates.
Santiago Villarreal Desentis - MSc student
Santiago received his Bachelor's degree in Biosciences from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education in Mexico City in 2024 and is now enrolled in the Molecular and Cellular Life Sciences MSc programme at UU. In his project, he represses enhancer elements with human-specific activity in neural stem cells to study the enhancers' effect on expression of their target genes.
