Main activities of the group

The Experimental Rock Deformation Group conducts research on the mechanical behaviour and transport properties of Earth materials at conditions pertaining to the Earth’s crust and upper mantle. This involves experimental work coupled with microstructural studies of the active microscale processes plus modelling of these processes.

Experimental work in the HPT laboratory

Our experimental work consists of deformation experiments and transport property measurements conducted in the High Pressure and Temperature (HPT) Laboratory. The lab is equipped with a wide range of facilities with which we can reproduce pressure and temperature conditions relevant to the Earth’s crust and upper mantle.

The HPT laboratory participates in EPOS-IP (Earth Plate Observing System).
