Muriel Hagenaars

Muriel Hagenaars is Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at Utrecht University and a registered Psychotherapist. She received her PhD in 2008 on the role of dissociation in the aetiology of posttraumatic stress disorder (Radboud University Nijmegen). Her present research still concentrates on threat-related disorders and the formation of intrusive memories, as well as on mental imagery and automatic defense behaviour. Dr. Hagenaars received a VENI grant for innovative research (2009) from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) for research on the role of freezing in the formation of emotional memories.
