About Utrecht

Canals of Utrecht

With medieval architecture, Roman treasures, and a bustling atmosphere of restaurants and shops, Utrecht has been ranked in Lonely Planet's top-10 unsung places worldwide. One of the highlights of the city is the 600-year-old Dom Toren, the tallest church tower in the Netherlands, providing stunning views on bright days. The inner-city canals of Utrecht have a distinctive appearance due to their wharves, originally used for storing goods from merchant ships in the 13th century. Nowadays, these former warehouses are home to restaurants, bars, shops, and even nightclubs, creating a unique and vibrant atmosphere. Despite being the fourth-largest city in the Netherlands, with a population of 345,000, the historic city center is easily accessible by foot.
