Many of today’s environmental challenges unfold over large spatial scales and long periods of time. Addressing questions related to biodiversity loss, climate change, ecosystem resilience, and sustainable land use therefore requires more than small-scale laboratory studies or short-term observations.
At the Ecology & Biodiversity group, we rely on a suite of large-scale experimental platforms that allow us to investigate ecological processes under realistic conditions and across multiple levels of biological organization. These infrastructures provide unique opportunities to test ecological theory, quantify ecosystem responses to environmental change, and bridge the gap between fundamental understanding and practical solutions.
Our experimental platforms combine long-term ecological monitoring, manipulative experiments, advanced environmental sensing, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
