What is the Dynamics of Youth hub about?

Great minds may think alike, but they also tend to think in various directions and from different points of view. They need a focal point in order to achieve great things together, be they scientists, entrepreneurs, teachers, students or innovators. To fill this need, Dynamics of Youth is shaping a hub: a physical as well as a virtual pivot to breed and feed ideas from.

Drie kleine wetenschappers

Every one of Utrecht University’s strategic themes is developing one or more ‘hubs’. So are we: research teams formed by scientists from a variety of fields, work together with societal partners on concrete projects for the future hub.

Our aim is to turn this hub into a household name among researchers, innovators and other professionals alike.

What is a hub?

Our hub is a central point and breeding ground for innovative and interdisciplinary research, with collaboration between knowledge institutions, social organisations and businesses. Our aim is to turn this hub into something recognizable, into a household name among researchers, innovators and other professionals alike. Research within our hub is supported and propelled by the application of state-of-the-art infrastructure (data and lab facilities).

Crossing boundaries

The DoY-hub will be the focal point for innovative and cross-disciplinary research. Imagine what new and valuable knowledge will come to the fore if we overlap research that focuses on brain and cognition with research focusing on social-psychological and educational factors, and with research focusing on societal and cultural factors.

Research projects

Our hub will start out with the following projects. These projects will form the core of our activities in the coming years.

The first 1001 critical days of a child’s life

‘I want to develop, not a label’

How do diagnostic classifications affect children’s wellbeing?

DoY needs you

Interested? Please get in touch. Because for these projects to thrive and our interdisciplinary hub to work we need you.

How and which projects can you join?

First and foremost: everybody can join DoY. As our programme director Chantal Kemner puts it: “We invite you to discuss with us how we can get where we want to go, and how your particular field of expertise might help us get there. Right now professors and associate professors are discussing DoY-goals, small and big, in workable groups. The PI’s working for DoY will decide who’s and which research project could be a good addition.”

Kemner already had a lively hub in her mind from the very beginning of DoY. She invites colleagues from all over Utrecht University to join: “We want to expand the teams developing projects for the hub. Keep an eye on our website and the monthly newsletter, and come to our meetings. We’ll also be visiting all of the different faculties with Dynamics of Youth On Tour to talk about our plans, exchange ideas and meet one another. Join us!”
