REWIRE: Leveraging new collaborations for circular agriculture missions

The REWIRE project aims to transform Dutch agriculture into a sustainable system by addressing collaboration challenges, fostering alignment across organizational, ecosystemic, and policy levels, and analyzing innovation networks and governance. It focuses on the Circular Metropolis in the West and the Circular Agrifood mission in the East.
The Netherlands is transforming its agricultural system to be circular, resource-efficient, climate-neutral, socially equitable, and economically sound. This complex challenge is critical due to urgent sustainability issues and the innovative potential within Dutch agriculture. Traditional collaborations often maintain the unsustainable status quo, hindered by the dominance of established players and difficulty scaling sustainable solutions.
Unique insights in sustainable innovation
The REWIRE project tackles these challenges by fostering alignment across organizational, ecosystemic, and policy levels to promote sustainable agricultural innovation. We analyze the entire national agricultural system, focusing on innovation networks and governance frameworks. Two contrasting case studies, the Circular Metropolis mission in the West and the Circular Agrifood mission in the East, provide unique insights and solutions.
As a transdisciplinary initiative, REWIRE unites researchers and stakeholders to co-create tools for new collaborations. Additionally, the project includes learning opportunities for professionals and students, further enhancing our Collective Learning Platform.
The project is funded by NWO and runs from 2023 to 2027.
