About us
The Centre for Complex Systems Studies (CCSS) stimulates and facilitates the collaboration on complexity science over the boundaries of disciplines. The centre aims at scientific breakthroughs as well as novel solutions for societially relevant issues by approaching existing problems from the perspective of complex systems science. In addition to the research, a Bachelor’s minor, a Master’s profile and a summer school programme are offered to educate students in complexity.
Wide range of disciplines
The Centre for Complex Systems Studies harbours talented young researchers as well as renowned scientists from a wide range of disciplines. The centre encourages and facilitates the collaboration with external partners from other research centres and from industry.
Meeting place
Situated on the Utrecht Science Park, the Centre for Complex Systems Studies offers workspaces where researchers from different disciplines can meet and work together. Computational facilities are available through the Complexity Lab Utrecht (CLUe) which is also located on site. Furthermore, support is given for activities regarding education and organisation of conferences and workshops.
Focus area
The Centre for Complex Systems Studies is established within the Utrecht University focus area Foundations of Complex Systems, which started in 2014 and will be continued up to 2022. The centre builds upon the success of the focus area and provides a meeting place that brings together all researchers, support staff and activities of complexity science.
