I have a Master in Oncology and I am now a third year Bioinformatics PhD student at the UMC Utrecht. My PhD is done in collaboration with ErasmusMC and SkylineDx, a diagnostics company.
Communicating your research in a clear and understandable manner to a broader audience is an important part of being a scientist. With my participation in this competition I hope to learn how to build a good story and improve my presentation skills.
An important challenge in treating cancer patients is selecting the right treatment at the moment of diagnosis, to avoid treating patients with harmful drugs that will not benefit them. My research focuses on developing novel methods to investigate large datasets and detect patterns in genomic and transcriptomic data that can predict whether a patient will benefit from a certain treatment.
