Research in the Animal Behaviour and Cognition group involves three research lines, concerning animal group living, animal social cognition, and animal welfare. Our research focusses mainly on primates, although we also extensively study birds and other animals.
Cooperation can thrive in strict hierarchies. An international team of biologists led by Utrecht University found that monkeys in highly structured groups cooperate more effectively.
