For the publication Rivolti al monte: studi sul ‘Purgatorio’ dantesco, researchers delved into Purgatory, the second part of Dante’s Divine Comedy. The new book is edited and introduced by Gandolfo Cascio, and presents contributions by some leading Dante scholars, including Reinier Speelman and Onno Kosters

Purgatory

In the essays collected in Rivolti al monte, the researchers, using different theoretical and methodological approaches, address various issues – literary, artistic, theological, on aesthetic reception – concerning Purgatory, that were either unresolved or in need of updating.

The chapters are based on the proceedings of the 2021 international conference held to mark the 700th anniversary of Dante Alighieri’s death. The conference, organised by the Utrecht University Observatory on Dante Studies and the Italian Cultural Institute in Amsterdam, was entirely devoted to Dante’s Purgatory.
