Understanding waste
Improving understanding, knowledge and managing waste.
We want to have a better understanding of the waste we produce as a university. We do this by collecting data on our waste together with our waste processors. By doing so, we develop insight into the different waste streams, learn more and more about what all ends up in our waste and where it comes from. We also monitor how these different waste streams develop over time. We are thus gaining more and more insight into our waste.
Working together with students
We also do this together with students from our own university. Their research has taught us more about how different waste streams are processed by our waste processors, how the material flows within our university, how people handle items and how we deal with our waste.
External developments
We also keep an eye on all external developments, such as new legislation coming our way and new waste processors entering the market. We are also in contact with other universities and colleges so that we can learn from each other.
Waste figures
We like to share our knowledge and insights. On this page, you will therefore find more information on, for example, our waste figures. You can also find studies previously carried out by our students.
Based on the new insights and knowledge we gain within the Zero Waste programme, we make well-founded decisions. We are increasingly learning which knobs to turn in order to achieve Zero Waste operations.
