Young adults in times of corona
The outbreak of COVID-19 and the measures to combat it not only resulted in devastating consequences for people’s health and mortality, but also had a tremendous impact on individuals’ social lives all over the world. Both the virus itself and the measures taken to combat its spread had far-reaching consequences for societies around the world. Health personnel were working under tremendous pressure and children were not able to go to school. In light of social-distancing measures, the possibility of developing and maintaining close relationships was also severely curtailed.
To understand how young people in particular respond to, and are affected by, the COVID-19 pandemic, this cross-national project, “Young Adults in Times of Corona”, investigated young people’s experiences, attitudes, and behaviors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project aimed to answer questions such as:
- What impact does the COVID-19 pandemic have on the lives of young people?
- How do young people think about, and deal with the regulations intended to prevent the spread of the virus?
- How do they feel and behave towards others during this time?
The study involved young people from Argentina, Chile, China, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Spain, Taiwan, The Netherlands, Turkey, and the United States. Participants provided information on their thoughts and behaviors by filling out an online questionnaire.
