You will work within the Diagnostic Imaging discipline as part of a team of board-certified diagnostic imaging specialists (DipECVDI), residents, technicians, and animal care staff. The Diagnostic Imaging Department within the Department of Clinical Sciences performs a wide range of imaging procedures annually—including radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, CT, MRI, and SPECT-CT—on horses, farm animals, and companion animals.

Your job

Within the department, you will follow the training programme, in which you will:

  • Increasingly contribute independently to the clinical care of horses, farm animals, and companion animals, as well as to student education and research within the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
  • Participate in the department’s evening and weekend duty roster for both equine and companion animal patients after an initial training period.

Your qualities

We are looking for a veterinarian who has:

  • At least one year of experience in equine medicine within a specialist clinic (“internship”), or at least two years of experience in a well-equipped veterinary practice (equine and/or companion animals), supported by strong references.
  • High motivation and a demonstrated interest in veterinary diagnostic imaging.
  • An understanding that the training programme, in addition to clinical duties, has a strong academic focus and includes scientific training, with an affinity for research (goal: two scientific publications).
  • Experience in teaching or continuing education, as you will contribute to student instruction (this is an advantage).
  • A strong commitment to the core values of the Diagnostic Imaging discipline: quality, client service, and efficiency.
  • The ability to work well in a team, combined with strong communication skills.
  • Proficiency in both Dutch and English, spoken and written.
  • Willingness and eligibility to take the ECVDI (European College of Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging) exam for the Large Animal Biased Track during or after the training programme.

Our offer

  • a position for one year;
  • a working week of 36-40 hours and a gross monthly salary between € 3,546 and €5,538 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;

Clinical Sciences

At the Department of Clinical Sciences, you will work alongside approximately 150 veterinarians and a similar number of support staff. Approximately two-thirds of the veterinarians are specialists in various disciplines; the remaining one-third consists of interns, residents and PhD students. Together we are responsible for the education of veterinary students, provision of clinical services to horses and companion animals, and both clinical and more fundamental research in the areas of regenerative medicine, locomotion, genetics and reproduction.
