Spinoza Prize for plant protection research

Corné Pieterse in a research room with three colleagues

The highest award in Dutch academia, the Spinoza Prize, has been awarded to Utrecht University researcher Corné Pieterse. The prize comprises a 2.5 million euro funding, provided by the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
Pieterse's research team concentrates on how plants protect themselves, and the role of microbes that live on the roots of plants. This topic is increasingly relevant, because every year, more than a quarter of all harvests worldwide are lost due to plant diseases and plagues.
