Organisational Development and Leadership for Societal Transitions
Societal Changes
Organisations that are active in the public domain have to deal with crucial societal issues, such as climate change, pandemics, security threats, and other impactful events. The environment of organisations is often uncertain. It can be hard to make sense of what exactly is going on in these kinds of complex situations. People that are part of the chair on Organisational Development and Leadership for Societal Transitions focus on how to deal with these kinds of circumstances.
Organisational Development and Leadership
The chair offers a home base to staff members who put their heart and soul into the education that is so important and characteristic of the Utrecht University School of Governance, namely the trainers, coaches and teachers of social and professional skills. They teach, give advice, and work on impact pertaining to how organisations can develop and how people in those organizations can lead social changes.
Basic and Practical Insights
Within the chair, we conduct basic and applied research into issues that are crucial in dealing with uncertainty and societal changes. This research focuses, among other things, on perceived justice and trust. Ideally, the fundamental research results in concrete advice for citizens, organisations, and society. Conversely, the research that the chair conducts in practical domains feeds basic insights into development and leadership in changing times.
Just Leadership
A topic that binds the various researchers and lecturers within the chair group is just leadership. The chair offers several courses on this subject, including education for professionals. We also conduct empirical research on this theme. Furthermore, we explore the issue of moral leadership that is needed to give people, organisations, and our society a push in the desired direction on how to deal with transitions and to do so in humane and dignified ways.
