Belle van Zuylenzaal

The Belle van Zuylenzaal is located on the ground floor of the University Hall. It is possible to rent this room for bigger groups and has multiple possible seating layouts.

  • The standard layout for the Belle van Zuylenzaal is the theater layout, which has room for 60 people.
  • The dinner layout has room for 48 people, the reception layout has room for 60 people.
  • Other layout options are available in consultation.

Costs

The hourly rate is €135, and the half-day rate is €400. 
The booking costs are exempt from taxes.

Booking costs include a movable LCD display with desktop (in consultation) and WiFi. Sound system and equipment can be rented for a fee of 80 euros per reservation. There is an additional fee for costs being made in the weekends, this includes security, cleaning services and emergency response services.

History

Belle van Zuylen took classes at Utrecht University. Later on, she became a well-known author in Europe under the pseudonym Madame de Charrière. She published her first novel Le Noble when she was only 20 years old and used to write many plays, opera’s, novels and brochures. What stands out the most is her work written during the French Revolution, especially because it highlights her political and social engagement. She used to correspond with several intellectuals of her time, examples being James Boswell, David Hume and Benjamin Constant.
