About ROA
Hi!
We are ROA, a new oat m*lk from Amsterdam. We founded ROA at the end of 2021 with the goal to supply coffee bars, restaurants, offices, and consumers with a high-quality barista oat m*lk that elevates the taste of great coffee. That’s how ROA Barista was born; a creamy and rich oat m*lk that foams well, has a smooth taste, and makes great coffee even better. Two years down the line, we now supply nearly 1000 happy bars, cafés, offices, hotels, haberdasheries and more in over 15 countries.
Herein, we take a Barista-first mindset and focus on sustainable partnerships with the places we work with. Further, we value sustainability and reliability and never compromise on aesthetics or taste. For example, in Amsterdam, we deliver everything with sustainable transport such as bakfietsen, and a bright yellow electric tuk tuk from Delhi. In addition to sustainability, delivering ROA ourselves gives us valuable insight
into our customers’ experience and is a great way to interact with them.
In addition, we aim to integrate art and aesthetics into everything we do. We design our packages together with local artists, who we want to give a platform to showcase their art. For every new edition of our package, we work together with a different artist. That way, our packages serve as a small canvas for a big audience. We think something that tastes good should also look good, and are driven to always bring taste and design to the forefront.
About the internship
As should not be a surprise in a start-up, there are plenty of projects to chase and challenges to find clever solutions to. Here are some of the things you could focus on, but we are open to hear your ideas as well.
I.Communication: we get a big influx of requests from potential customers from multiple channels (e.g. website, instagram, whatsapp). It’s key to automate these things as much as possible and create proper
workflows.
II.Business Development: Analyse trends in markets, find out the best cities to focus on, do a feasibility study, and make a plan to conquer
new markets.
III. Creative: Design is at the foundation of everything we do here at ROA, from our cartons to our cars, and our office to our invoices. There are constantly evolving projects in which someone with a design-first mentality can make a difference in creating beautiful things.
To be considered, please submit your CV, cover letter and transcript. Experience with design tools such as Illustrator or Indesign are not a must, but are valuable! Moreover, some feel for the coffee industry and hospitality are a plus :)

Testimonial
Below is a short testimonial from Catherine Doherty, Summer intern in 2021:
“Completing my summer internship at Kalavasta was very enlightening and gave me first hand experience in the Dutch Energy Transition. While I worked remotely, I was given independence to solve problems and discuss any doubts with the team. I contributed to the Carbon Transition Model, learned a lot about industrial processes, and what can be done to reduce emissions. Kalavasta is a great place to intern at because they trust in your talents and put in time to help you learn new skills. It’s clear they want the internship to be enjoyable. Overall, I’m very grateful I had the opportunity to spend my time with them. If you are considering applying, you should.”

Internship at Auris!
Royal Dutch Auris Group (Auris) is a professional partner for people who require support with hearing, speech and/or language. Auris’ main activities revolve around giving advice, prevention, diagnostics, guidance, treatment and education to clients with hearing impairments or developmental language disorders (DLD). In 2017, Auris’ 1510 employees provided care and services to 13827 clients. Auris also offers special education for hearing impaired children and children with DLD. Auris offers quality care and education and places the client or pupil in the spotlight. Together, we choose the type of care or education that is most suitable. We aim to deliver the best possible, reliable and high quality services to our clients.
Daily activities
You will be a member of the Auris research department. Your activities will range from data collection, entry, and analysis for several research projects that are carried out by our organization and within the consortium Deelkracht (www.deelkracht.nl). The research department of Auris primarily focuses on children with DLD but currently, we are also involved in some projects with children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Given these two target groups, a background in linguistics, (developmental) psychology, or neuroscience is therefore preferred.
Interaction
You will collaborate with Britt Hakvoort and be coached by other members of our research
group. Thursdays we work at our office in Rotterdam, other days mostly from home. Project meetings might also take place elsewhere in the Netherlands (Utrecht, Amsterdam). During this internship you will get the chance to regularly interact with professionals who work with children with DLD, and, depending on the project, with children with DLD themselves. It is essential you speak Dutch, given Auris’ target group.

Mischa Dekker, Assistant Professor, Leiden University | m.j.t.dekker@fgga.leidenuniv.nl
Currently, I am starting an NWO-Veni research project on sexual violence in the cultural sector, focusing primarily on television production and theatre in the Netherlands and France. I am interested in supervising interns on a small research project that fits within this larger project. The research for this internship will focus on analyzing how this problem is represented in media output and/or policy documents. What dominant framings of this social problem do we find in the media and in policy debates? As an example of framing research, the intern can analyze how media attribute responsibility for sexual violence in this sector (e.g., to victims, perpetrators, bystanders, institutions and enabling contexts). A possible research set-up is to focus on a specific scandal, such as that surrounding sexual violence and harassment committed by jury members of the television program The Voice of Holland.
The internship can focus on one or multiple tasks. A first task will be to construct a systematic dataset of policy documents/debates or media output. The choice of the exact corpus (e.g., policy documents, parliamentary debates, newspapers, social media) can be decided on together with the intern, depending on their skills and interest. Second, the intern will conduct a content analysis to analyze how the problem of sexual violence in the cultural sector is represented in this corpus. Third, depending on the quality of the analysis the intern can be involved in the publication of a scientific article based on this study.
Required skills:
- Dutch and/or French, English
- Basic quantitative analysis skills
Duration: May - August 2025 (exact timeline can be discussed)
This internship must be non-academic (or academic internship) for credits.
The near-ubiquitous presence of digital communication technologies in everyday life affords a number of important advantages, such as access to information, opportunities for professional development, and facilitating interpersonal relationships. However, the proliferation of these technologies is accompanied by a range of negative effects on individuals and societies (e.g., technology-facilitated violence, disinformation, etc.).
Most recently, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (A.I.) instruments and their active marketing has resulted in the emergence of novel challenges (e.g., deep fakes; algorithmic bias, etc.). The proposed project seeks to explore general public’s AI literacy, with a particular focus on awareness and misconceptions regarding GenAI-associated risks and harms. Under GenAI-associated risk and harms, we understand both digital harms (e.g., image-based abuse, exposure to misinformation and hallucinations) and a broader spectrum of possible negative societal impacts (e.g. impact on environment and labor markets). The project will pursue the following objectives:
- To assess the current state of research on AI literacy and attitudes towards GenAI (including an overview of existing AI literacy scales and assessment of their usability in the project)
- To develop of a survey instrument for the assessment of users’ awareness and understanding of GenAI-associated risks and harms
- To conduct an anonymous online survey on awareness and understanding of GenAI-associated risks and harms and analyze its results
Your primary tasks will be associated with Objective 1 and will include data collection and analysis for a systematic scoping review paper on the topic. Involvement in the two other Objectives is also possible.
You should be physically present at Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA) at least 3 days of the week, but part of the work can be done online.
This internship must be non-academic (or academic internship) for credits.
