Garden

De kloostertuin

In the garden of the Pandhof, mainly herbs and decorative plants are cultivated that used to occur in former bishop's gardens. In addition to kitchen herbs, many medicinal and dye-producing plants can be found. Each year, the Botanical Gardens of Utrecht University grow about 400 to 500 annual plants, which are planted in the spring. The garden is designed to have colour all year round.

From the garden you can also see the famous 'wimbergen', the sculpted triangles above the windows. You can read more information about this at monastry corridor.

Fontein Pandhof

At the centre of the herbs is a statue of a writing monk. The statue is part of the fountain made in 1915 and donated to the university by the municipality of Utrecht. That is why it bears the following inscription (in Latin): 'The city enriches the Academy with this gift and will never forget the ancient connection'. The bronze statue was designed and made by the Brom brothers.
