Utrecht University is bringing buildings more in line with its strategy. Ambitions in the areas of education, research, organisation and sustainability require changes to our real estate.
The university has examined its total buildings in portfolio. An integrated plan was then drawn up. With that in hand, we are working towards real estate that matches the strategy of the university.
The coming ten years targeted investments will amount to more than 800 million euros. The objective is to bring the total real estate costs down.
Smaller building portfolio
We will dispose of about 30% of the square metres at our disposal. The steps towards a smaller portfolio will be taken in close consultation and cooperation with the faculties and departments involved. Employee and student representation also play a role in this. The coming period will be used to further elaborate the plans for our real estate.
The plan, which was adopted in 2019, looks ahead until the end of 2027 and will be updated every two years based on the current situation as well as new insights. This process will make the strategic management and development of real estate and real estate a permanent fixture in Utrecht University's strategy and plans.
