Too often, students with great ideas run into barriers—limited support and resources, rigid timelines, or simply fear of failure. We created Playground to change that.
Playground is a space where students can test, grow, and refine their ideas without pressure. By “ideas,” we don’t just mean start-ups. An idea could be a prototype, a social initiative, a community project, or even a bold question worth testing. Whatever the form—whether it starts in a classroom or on a napkin sketch—Playground helps students take the next step by giving them space, support, and freedom to explore.
How We Help
We provide students access to:
Workshops and events – Practical, skill- and networking-focused sessions that build confidence and entrepreneurial competencies.
Coaching and mentorship – Guidance from in-house coaches, industry experts, and experienced entrepreneurs to bring ideas forward.
Funding opportunities – Low-barrier grants that let students test and develop ideas quickly.
A supportive community – Peers who share interests, exchange feedback, and encourage one another.
Flexible space – Multifunctional rooms for co-working, workshops, events, and low-fidelity prototyping.
We also collaborate with educators, entrepreneurs, and other external parties to enrich students’ educational experiences and connect ideas to real-world opportunities.
Our Unique Position in Utrecht's Innovation Ecosystem
Utrecht has a vibrant entrepreneurial landscape of incubators, investment firms, startups, and more. Playground collaborates closely with these partners—sharing our network, hosting joint events and workshops, and connecting promising student startups to formal incubators when it is time for larger funding.
At the same time, we add our own distinctive dimension. Unlike programmes that focus on selection-based initiatives or commercialising market-ready concepts, we prioritise learning through continuous experimentation.
With no selection criteria, Playground supports students at every stage—whether they are developing skills, exploring ideas, or bringing one to market. We provide a low-risk space and expert guidance for students to experiment, launch, test, refine, and even fail at their ideas—without judgement—as long as they keep pushing forward. Our philosophy? Inside, you’ll find buzzing workspaces, flexible classrooms, and hands-on prototyping areas—all designed to turn potential into real impact.
Even our branding reflects this mission. The overlapping Ps in our logo symbolise collaboration and diverse perspectives coming together. Our bright, primary colours remind us that innovation often begins with simple, playful beginnings.
