Frequently asked questions about the fire at the data centre in Almere and its impact on Utrecht University’s network, applications and websites.

Due to a fire at a data center in Almere, Utrecht University was experiencing problems with its network, applications and websites. This had a major impact on the daily work, research and education of staff and students.

If UU stakeholders, such as suppliers, have questions about services, payments or other matters, they can contact their usual contacts at UU from Monday 18 May. We are doing everything we can to restore processes for them as quickly as possible.

Did you register before 1 May but were unable to complete the matching form? If so, you should have received a message by now. Please complete the form by 22 May at the latest.

The issues with Osiris have now been resolved. All applications, changes or submissions made via Osiris and Studielink have been successfully recorded. We are doing our best to process the applications as quickly as possible, but it may take a little longer before you receive a response.

From Tuesday 19 May, exams and exam reviews can once again take place online.

Did you experience problems with the “Utrecht University” Wi-Fi network? The issues with that network have now been resolved. Please reconnect to “Utrecht University” to access all services.

All systems will be available again from Monday 18 May.

There are still some issues with a few systems:

Work is still ongoing on a number of HPC (high-performance computing) systems at the Science faculty.
Due to scheduled routine maintenance, ValidSign is currently unavailable.

All accessible toilets will be open again from Monday 11 May.

Students can contact their student information desk.

If you are a Utrecht University staff member and have urgent questions, please contact your supervisor by phone. If necessary, they can refer you (for example, to the IT Service Desk) or make enquiries within their own faculty or department.

Utrecht University communicated updates via the website. We did not send emails to students and staff to avoid overloading the system.
