Work in Progress:

Discover the biodiversity restoration plan at USP

Since 2022, efforts have been underway to restore and strengthen biodiversity at USP. In October 2026, the first ecological corridor connecting the Oostbroek estate with Fort bij Rhijnauwen - 1.6 km long and 30 meters wide - will finally be completed. We want to highlight and celebrate this with USP residents, users, and neighbors. (The first half of the corridor was completed in the fall of 2025.)

The event aims to introduce participants to UU’s sustainability ambitions, showcase biodiversity restoration at USP, inspire interest in biodiversity, and raise awareness of the importance of protecting the natural variety of life.

We are connecting Utrecht Science Park with the surrounding Nature Network and giving native plants and animals plenty of space to grow, bloom, and move freely.

Regional biodiversity

The project aligns with the 2026 lustrum theme of connection between UU/UMCU and the city and region. This activity emphasizes the importance of regional biodiversity and demonstrates UU’s efforts to strengthen it.

Come see how the landscape is evolving! The ecological corridor is expected to be delivered at the end of October 2026. The first section will have been developing for a year by then. The exact date is not yet fixed, but an event is tentatively planned around week 44, 2026.
