Conflict and Crisis in the Classroom: History Helps
TerInfo & Adapt present
How can you make it easier to discuss crises and conflicts in the classroom? And what role can history play in this? During this symposium, TerInfo, Adapt, experts and community partners will discuss these issues.
In ten years, TerInfo has grown from a local initiative involving five schools in Utrecht into a national programme. TerInfo now supports more than 1,000 schools across primary, secondary, vocational and higher education. It provides support during crises, disruptive events and moments when tensions rise in the classroom.
During this symposium, organised for TerInfo’s supporters in the city and region of Utrecht, the central question is how teachers, youth workers, educational projects and social partners can deal with conflict and crisis in and around the classroom.
When something intense happens, society tends to accelerate and make quick judgments. We try to slow down and provide students with knowledge and understanding through history. By drawing parallels with the past, we give them perspective and hope.
Connecting education, science and society
The symposium coincides with Utrecht University’s 50th anniversary in 2026. This anniversary will focus on the connections between Utrecht University, UMC Utrecht, the city of Utrecht and the wider region.
This programme brings scientific insights from and about the classroom directly into practice. The symposium is relevant for teachers, youth workers, educational projects, social partners, local authorities, government departments and other interested parties in Utrecht and beyond.
