Agencies, platforms and current availability

The largest share of housing in Utrecht is provided by private home owners and housing providers. Most housing offers are posted on housing platforms by current tenants, landlords and agencies. The available offers and the housing advertised on the platforms and pages is not checked by Utrecht University. You must come to an agreement in direct contact with the housing provider without interference of Utrecht University.

SSH Short Stay

You are free to mix and match separate SSH Short Stay offers (as long as your total stay with SSH Short Stay does not exceed 12 months) 

• 

  Temporary Nieuwegracht apartment July 2026

  • Eligibility: international staff/guests (no PhDs). You cannot have lived with SSH before. Eligibility will be verified by UU.
  • Rental period: 17 July 2026 - 31 July 2026 (extension not possible)
  • Location: Nieuwegracht, Utrecht
  • Facilities: furnished, 2-bedroom apartment
  • Rent: 1931 euros per month, including utilities
  • Rent allowance: it is not possible to apply for rent allowance.
  • Apply: email us at StudentServices@uu.nl with Nieuwegracht July in the subject line and a copy of your letter of employment/visitors agreement attached. Please confirm that you have not lived with SSH before.

  Temporary UCU studio for July 2026

  • Eligibility: international (visiting) PhD students. You cannot have lived with SSH Short Stay for more than 11 months already. Eligibility will be verified by UU.
  • Rental period: per 1 July 2026 until 31 July 2026 (extension of the contract is not possible)
  • Location: Kriekenpitplein, University College Utrecht
  • Facilities: furnished, self-contained studio with private kitchen and bathroom
  • Occupancy: 1 person max
  • Rent: 934.08 euros per month, including utilities
  • Rent allowance: possible under certain conditions. For more information, please visit the Dutch government's housing benefit webpage or the Dutch tax administration's webpage.
  • Apply: email us at StudentServices@uu.nl with SSH Kriekenpitplein July in the subject line and a copy of your letter of employment/visitors agreement attached. Please also confirm that you have not lived with SSH Short Stay for more than 11 months already.

  Temporary Bisschoppen studio per July 2026

  • Eligibility: international (visiting) PhD students. You cannot have lived with SSH Short Stay for more than 11 months already. Eligibility will be verified by UU.
  • Rental period: temporary from 17 July 2026 until 12 August 2026 (early termination or extension not possible)
  • Location: Bisschoppen, USP, Utrecht
  • Facilities: furnished private studio with a private kitchen, bathroom and toilet.
  • Occupancy: 1 person max
  • Rent: 980.34 euros per month incl. utilities
  • Rent allowance: not possible
  • Apply: email us at StudentServices@uu.nl with SSH Bisschopen July in the subject line and a copy of your letter of employment/visitors agreement attached. Please also confirm that you have not lived with SSH Short Stay for more than 11 months already.

  • Rent: 980.34 euros per month, including utilities

New residential building: Carmen

We would like bring your attention to a new residential building in the Utrecht Cartesius area: Carmen. Carmen consists of 57 apartments spread across 8 floors. The units range in size from 63 m² to 167 m² and are divided into different types based on which side of the building they face. Completion is expected by the end of July 2026.
