SPIRAL: The Making of an HIV Cure for All

foto ingezoomd op medisch bloed-onderzoek omtrent HIV genezing.

The SPIRAL consortium is a six-year, multidisciplinary project working toward an HIV cure for everyone, with special attention to women in sub-Saharan Africa, the group most heavily affected by the epidemic. Despite the diversity of HIV subtypes, international biomedical research has largely focused on subtype B, which is mainly found in Western countries.

Within SPIRAL, social scientists study the everyday practices involved in developing more diverse and inclusive approaches to HIV cure research. They map key stakeholders, their interests, and perspectives, and examine the daily dynamics and practices of globalizing HIV cure research within research institutions in the Netherlands and sub-Saharan Africa.
