Citizens and government
Has there been a change in the trust citizens have in government in the past 50 years?
The majority of people wish to be able to trust other people and certainly their government. One of the reasons for this is that a fundamental distrust of others, including the societal authorities, costs us a lot of energy. Still: nowadays not many people will trust the authorities without suspicion. Particularly as a result of the Internet era we live in, we are more inclined to find out and investigate things ourselves, than the citizens of 50 years ago. These modern, slightly headstrong citizens of the Netherlands, who are actively looking for information, who are not to be fooled yet are able to remain open to working together and exchanging information with other citizens, perhaps they will lead the Netherlands to a bright future in the next 50 years.
