The Faculty Club of ... Ted Sanders
In this section, our members tell something about themselves and why they are members of the Faculty Club. Ted Sanders is professor of Language Control of Dutch in the Faculty of Humanities and also Vice-Rector of Research at UU. Since 1 June 2024, he has been president of the Faculty Club.

I strongly believe in the Faculty Club as UU's meeting place. In this living room of the university, people with all kinds of backgrounds meet each other in a casual way, in an inspiring and conversation-provoking environment. UU can be proud of such a beautiful Faculty Club!
How long have you been a member?
I have been a member of the Faculty Club since 5 November 2003 and have got to know the club very well over the past few years. The club is a wonderful place to meet up and I therefore regularly enjoy bringing my guests from home and abroad.
The Faculty Club is a wonderful meeting place for our university. It's great that you increasingly meet younger staff, PhD students and students there.
What do you do in daily life?
I am Professor of Dutch language use and discourse studies at the Faculty of Humanities, and Vice Dean of Research and Impact in the Faculty Board since September 2022. In addition, since 2018, I am the chair of the Graduate Committee of Utrecht University, which brings together the graduate schools. As of June 1st, 2024, I am Vice Rector of Research at Utrecht University.
Together with the Vice Rector of Teaching & Learning (Manon Kluijtmans), the Vice Rector of Research represents Utrecht University and its interests in international networks - especially in the context of LERU and the Coimbra Group. Sanders will remain the chair of the Graduate Committee.
What are you looking forward to?
The club is a meeting place for the entire university community. It is mainly this diversity of alumni and staff that leads to surprising encounters and that is why I would like to get involved. I am therefore looking forward to working on this together with the other board members and the programme committee.
In the coming years, we want to continue many activities and also initiate some new ones. Among other things, we are thinking about involving different groups in the ins and outs of the club, stimulating academic debate and making the FC more accessible, literally and figuratively.
