The Faculty Club of... Karin van den Boogaert

In this section, our members tell something about themselves and why they are members of the Faculty Club. Karin van den Boogaert is an alumnus at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance.

Why I became a member? Because I believe in face-to-face contact very much; you definitely see that in corona times. It's very important that there is a meeting place (and such a beautiful place, too!) where we can meet each other in an informal atmosphere. That's where the best ideas come about.

What do you do in your daily life?

I've studied journalism and law, and hosted many radio and TV shows (at the Wereldomroep, but also Vroege Vogels and the Radio1 News), with the final one being a science show. I now continue that with my own company Science ON AIR, with which I help academics to appear in the media. And they can blog themselves on my website wetenschap.nu.

How long have you been a member of the Faculty Club already?

I've been a member for two years now.

What is your most fun memory of the Faculty Club?

The most fun memory was also the most recent: Smartlappenavond (tear-jerker evening)! We made a conga line through the Club, not knowing that the fun would be over very shortly afterwards: corona!

What are you looking forward to the most?

I look forward the most to doing spontaneous things again, including being able to spontaneously go to the Club again to have a beer and catch up, or attend an interesting programme. It's just boring, having no live contact.

Do you have any suggestions for activities for the Faculty Club?

I view the activities in part through the lens of my company; when it comes to outreach, knowledge transfer, I think that many members as well as the Faculty Club can reach milestones in showing what's happening at the university and why that's important, useful AND fun. And especially to the outside world that often has no idea. Modern means such as blogging, vlogging and podcast are possible. By the way, I would really like to think along on that!
