Let's talk
With more than 3,800 members, the Faculty Club is an association for meeting, inspiration & relaxation. In our lustrum year, we talk to a number of members and (former) board members about their experiences with and memories of the club.
Sara Pot
"We want the club to be alive. A jazz band used to play at the monthly Happy Hours; fun, but it always attracted the same crowd. Now we try to keep the activities really low key and change things up a bit. We played shuffleboard in the garden, the pub quiz is extremely popular and as far as I'm concerned, the New Year's Reception 2023 was legendary."
Ineke van Oosten
"After two years of preparation, the outlines of the club were clear: it was to be a society with paying members consisting of scientists, support staff and alumni and with a clubhouse. We characterised the atmosphere as a living room of 'distinguished simplicity'."
Tony Barshini
"The Faculty Club has a unique location. I often show visitors the Utrecht University Hall first. Hundreds of years ago, the Union of Utrecht was signed in the current Aula! And from there you walk straight on to the Faculty Club with that beautiful, big fireplace"
Sandy van Heerde
"In every way, I have a dream job. I have the most beautiful workplace in the university and I connect alumni and staff, across disciplines and generations. My heart always beats a little faster when I walk through the Faculty Club."
Jaap Dijkman
"We prefer to work with steel and wood. That ages nicely, is not so expensive and also fits in nicely with the old atmosphere that the venue exudes. You can turn the club into something antique or you can turn it into something new, but with respect for the old. We chose the latter."
Kim Donaldson
"In the United States, the faculty club is the hub of social life. The Utrecht Faculty Club is incredibly fun, but not yet known to everyone. That is different in the US: there, faculty clubs have a strong connection with their staff and alumni."
Lustrum book 25 years Faculty Club
The building's rich history, our members' experiences and plans for the future. Extraordinary stories that deserve to be collected. In November, we will therefore present our lustrum book. Here you will read more about the history, (former) board members will have their say, members will look back on their favourite activities and the Rector Magnificus will dream about an extension to the Utrecht Science Park.
Keep an eye on our website and newsletter for more information about the lustrum book.
