The UU’s Science Type

We often unconsciously have images in our heads; what a (beta) scientist should look like, for example. How do we let go of these images and be open to other possibilities? In this short video, three Utrecht University researchers reflect on their experiences.

Malavika Sivan, Sanita Dhaubanjar and Laura Gomez Navarro do research in Physics and Geosciences – fields traditionally less frequently occupied by women, and especially young women from developing countries.

In this thought-provoking video, they share their opinions and experiences on stereotyping and prejudices. Included are topics such as perceived gender bias in science, importance of positive discrimination, and the role of upbringing.

This video was produced by the EDI Office in cooperation with Utrecht University’s audiovisual team.
