The Olaf Schuiling Fund is named after Prof Dr R.D. Schuiling (1932), who was appointed Professor of Geochemistry and Experimental Petrology in 1972. He played a crucial role in the development of the field of geochemistry at Utrecht University and remained active after his retirement in 1997.
The initiative taker and founder of the fund is Drs Henk Vrins. He started as a chemistry student in 1962 and was one of the first to graduate in 1968 under then Dr Olaf Schuiling. Throughout his industrial career, Vrins never lost his interest in science and the field of geochemistry in particular.
What research is eligible for subsidies?
The fund aims to enable additional research and teaching programmes in the field of geochemistry for which regular resources are insufficient. This research can be related to a broad range of processes in the geosphere, including the possible influence it has on the biosphere.
