Maartje Draak travel grant

• The Maartje Draak Fund is administered by the Utrecht University Fund but supports projects and initiatives that contribute to teaching and research in Celtic languages and literature and/or the promotion of the discipline. These travel grants are therefore open to all PhD students (both internal and external), Master’s students and Bachelor’s students from the Netherlands and abroad.
• In the case of a UU student: they must have successfully completed a number of courses at the UU in the field of Celtic studies;
• In the case of a UU PhD student: they must be working on a thesis related to the subject area of Celtic studies;
• For students, the stay abroad must take place within four years of the start of the bachelor’s programme or within three years of the start of the master’s programme
• The financial support supplements a shortfall in the student’s/PhD candidate’s budget plan (it does not therefore cover the full costs, unless those costs do not exceed the maximum amount of the grant). 

Each year, a maximum of €1,000 per candidate (with a maximum of five candidates) may be awarded to those who require the grant to undertake studies or an internship abroad in the field of Celtic studies. 

An application for a travel grant must include the following:

• A statement of purpose demonstrating that the applicant meets the above conditions and explaining how this travel grant is relevant to their own academic development. Personal learning objectives must be clearly defined.
• A budget detailing income and expenditure. The Maartje Draak Fund covers travel costs, accommodation costs, conference/summer school participation fees, travel insurance and visa costs. An example budget:

• Unless the stay is for research purposes at an open-access institution: a letter of confirmation from the host organisation (conference, summer school, internship provider, library/archive, university, etc.). If this confirmation is not yet available at the time of application, e.g. because you first need to secure your funding or because the organisation has not yet sent confirmation, please state this. If a grant is awarded, you must still submit this confirmation before departure to finalise the award.
• IBAN + account holder’s name.

The Maartje Draak Travel Grant Committee assesses the applicants. Applicants will receive a confirmation email from the grant portal asking them to submit their claims via the University Fund’s grant portal.

• Approved candidates will be forwarded to the Utrecht University Fund by the secretary of the Maartje Draak Expenditure Advisory Committee (Sjoer Bergervoet, s.a.bergervoet@uu.nl) along with the above details;
• These candidates will be added to the University Fund’s grant portal;
• Candidates will receive a confirmation email from the grant portal asking them to submit their claims via the University Fund’s grant portal;
• Once the process is complete, the Maartje Draak Expenditure Advisory Committee would like to receive a brief report of no more than one A4 page from the candidate detailing their experience (via Sjoer Bergervoet, s.a.bergervoet@uu.nl)
