Maartje Draak Fund

For the coming years (2025–2028), four areas of funding have been defined:

• Travel grants for students to attend a summer school or conference. MA and PhD students from outside the Netherlands may apply for a Maartje Draak travel grant to come to Utrecht, provided that their visit includes a research component.
• Outreach activities for a broad audience, particularly in the Netherlands, in which students can also take on organizational and operational roles (Community Engaged Learning). Funded projects include the (further development of) Crack the Celtic Code, which is a major public attraction during the Weekend of Science.
• Activities aimed at academic collaboration and synergy between Celtic Studies and related disciplines within the Dutch-speaking world (e.g. an annual symposium on a specific theme, such as Arthurian studies, archaeology, language politics, Celtic and Frisian, etc.).
• Activities focused on strengthening connections between Dutch and international academic Celtic Studies (e.g. guest lectures at Utrecht University by international colleagues). The annually organized Maartje Draak Seminars are funded by the fund.

The Spending Advisory Committee consists of:

• A representative of the Celtic and Classics section of the Department of Languages, Communication and Literature within the Faculty of Humanities: Prof. dr. Peter Schrijver
• A representative of the Faculty of Humanities Board: Drs. Sjoer Bergervoet
• An independent member: Em. prof. dr. Joep Leerssen
