Gerard 't Hooft Fund
Gerard 't Hooft, Professor Emeritus of Theoretical Physics and Nobel Laureate, supports scientific research in the field of theoretical physics through his foundation. 't Hooft won the 2025 Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics for his fundamental insights into gauge theories and the Standard Model. He is keen to support young scientists whose research builds on the work for which he won the Breakthrough Prize.
His head is full of brilliant ideas about black holes and quantum physics; he sees them very clearly. All those insights will be lost if he is no longer able to communicate them in a way that others can build on. Yet they are fundamentally very important.
Expenditure
Expenditure from the Gerard 't Hooft Fund is channelled exclusively through the Theoretical Physics (ITF) research group, which forms part of the Department of Physics within the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University. This group may apply for funding from the fund in order to offer talented researchers in theoretical physics a position at Utrecht University.
Contact
This fund is actively open to external donations in order to support more young scientists in their research. Would you like to contribute, or do you have any other questions about the Gerard 't Hooft Fund? If so, please contact:
