Genmab Jan van de Winkel Scholarship Fund
To celebrate Genmab’s 25th anniversary and honor its founder and CEO, Jan van de Winkel, Genmab has established a scholarship fund. This initiative reflects Jan’s longstanding relationship with Utrecht University, which began in 1988, and his significant contributions to the Utrecht Science Park ecosystem.
Jan van de Winkel has served as Professor of Immunotherapy at Utrecht University since 1996. He is widely recognized for his scientific achievements, which include more than 180 patents and patent applications and over 300 scientific articles. The scholarship fund honors his impactful career and is intended to support the next generation of scientific talent.
Genmab Jan van de Winkel Scholarship Criteria
The scholarship supports promising Utrecht University students of any nationality or country of residence whose academic progress is at risk due to financial need. To be considered, applicants must meet all of the following criteria and clearly articulate their academic focus and research objectives in their application:
- Be enrolled in a masters’ or doctoral program in a scientific field related to antibodies, antibody-based therapeutics, or oncology, with a demonstrated commitment to improving the lives of individuals affected by cancer or other serious illnesses.
- Demonstrate financial need that may hinder their ability to continue or fully benefit from their graduate studies, where scholarship support would make a meaningful difference in advancing their academic journey.
- While not required, applicants are welcome to share personal experiences or stories that reflect how their lives have been touched by cancer.
The excellent infrastructure at the Utrecht Science Park, the presence of a strong Faculty of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, the Joint Animal Laboratory, and the large concentration of excellent researchers, students and PhD students within the Life Sciences site, were the deciding factors for us to permanently establish ourselves at the Utrecht Science Park.
