Fund for the Promotion of Alternatives to Animal Testing

The Fund for the Promotion of Alternatives to Animal Testing focuses on students and researchers at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. In 2026, the Fund is making an amount of €25,000 available for the awarding of research grants. These are grants for academics engaged in establishing, developing, and/or implementing alternative methods to replace or reduce the number of experiments on live animals.

You must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a grant:

• Projects wishing to be considered for funding from the Fund for the Promotion of Alternatives to Animal Testing:
• fit within the objectives of the Jubilee Fund and the Fund for the Promotion of Alternatives to Animal Testing, and are in line with the mission and profile of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Utrecht University;
• are scientifically substantiated where applicable;
• are not or insufficiently funded from regular university resources;
• lead to a concrete product or final result;
• start in the academic year 2026-2027; has a duration of up to 18 months and produces a concrete (research) result upon completion.

In 2026, applications can be submitted in:

• Round 6: November 2 to November 27, 2026

The application process in the portal also requests the attachments listed below.

• A copy of your diploma
• A copy of your transcript

These two specific attachments are not required for the Fund for the Promotion of Alternatives to Animal Testing.
