University Style Guide

Is it OK to abbreviate Utrecht University to UU in a running sentence? Should you write the word “department” with a capital or lower-case letter? What does an inclusive writing style entail? What is the “correct” spelling?

You can find the answers to all these questions in the university style guide. The style guide is also an editing guide and contains guidelines for everyone who produces texts (writing and editing) for Utrecht University. This style guide does not provide the only correct way to write in English and need not be used in every communication setting, but rather explains the principles of style selected to represent Utrecht University’s corporate identity.

The Communications Office is responsible for the style guide. The English version is co-produced with the Committee for English in Education.
