Using sources in knowledge clips and web lectures
- Always credit your sources
- Preferably use Open Access material or material with a Creative Commons licence
- It is permitted to include parts of literary works, films and photographs to support your teaching (citing), as long as they support the content of the knowledge clip. This means that you cannot use the material to illustrate or embellish your lecture.
- Linking to other online material is always permitted (provided that the material is legally published), downloading is not.
Sharing knowledge clips outside Utrecht University
Do you only use your own work in your knowledge clips? In that case you may place it in a secure electronic learning environment (such as Blackboard) as well as outside the academic environment (for instance on YouTube).
Use of sources in web lectures
You may record your lectures in order to be shown at a later stage. Please take the following into account:
- Due to portrait right and the protection of personal data you must always ask permission of the people present if they are filmed in such a way that they may be recognised.
- By placing a recorded lecture on Blackboard, your own website or YouTube or sending it by email, you are making it public. In that case you must follow the rules of the Copyright Act when selecting the sources you will be using in your lecture.
