Utrecht University maintains close ties with the city and province of Utrecht. Major examples of regional collaboration include the foundation of UtrechtInc for innovative start-ups, one of the most successful incubators in the Netherlands, and Utrecht Science Park, home to Utrecht University, various research institutes and dozens of businesses.
Utrecht Science Park
Utrecht University works with various partners in the field of education and research at the Utrecht Science Park: University Medical Center Utrecht, Hogeschool Utrecht, research institutions and research companies.
Utrecht University and Hogeschool Utrecht cooperate in various ways, including in the Academic Teacher Training for Primary Education and in the development of special Pre-Master's programmes. UMC Utrecht provides the academic degree programmes in Medicine, Biomedical Sciences and Clinical Health Sciences. UMC Utrecht also has a training centre that offers a wide range of vocational courses, partly in alliance with Hogeschool Utrecht.
Acclaimed research institutions, such as TNO, Deltares, the Hubrecht Institute and the SRON space research institute are based in Utrecht Science Park. It is also home to over sixty research and development companies, of which more than half focus on the Life Sciences, including Merus Biopharmaceuticals, Genmab and Danone.
Utrecht University participates in the Economic Board Utrecht (site in Dutch). The EBU encourages innovation and collaboration between companies, research institutions and governments and aims at a green, healthy and smart region.
Culture in Utrecht
