The societal impact of the Humanities

The Centre for the Humanities (CfH) focuses on the societal impact of research and education within the Humanities. As a discussion platform, facilitator and catalyst, the CfH wants to relate innovative research activities to broader societal impact, and fulfil the role of intermediary between the faculty community and the city and region. With a diverse programme, the CfH focuses in the period 2017/2019 on the main topic Impact. In addition, the CfH also contributes to the strategic pillar of the Utrecht University: diversity.

Programme 2017-2019

The programme consists of a diverse range of collaborations within the faculty, with other universities as well as externally diverse activities. For example a series of debates for the faculty, enabling visiting fellows, a workshop on impact, collaborations with LERU (League of Research Universities), ECHIC (European Consortium of Humanities Institutes and Centres) and with CHCI (a global network of Humanities Centres).

Externally we work together within the city and region of Utrecht, for example with the Municipality of Utrecht, cultural organisations in the city and partaking in a cities network with similar initiatives. On diversity we run a project on implementing an after school educational programme on language and reading for children with Dutch as their second language at home.
