Projects Centre for Global Challenges
Flagship projects
Flagship projects are ambitious projects that combine research, education, and societal impact. Our flagship projects are working globally with dozens of international societal and academic stakeholders, as well as students, and are working collaboratively to address key global challenges.
Open Cities
The Open Cities project aims to contribute to making cities more open and equal places around the world. On the level of the city, we encounter intersection of various socio-economic, ecological and spatial challenges.
Global Education Lab
The Global Education Lab flagship partners with societal partners from around the world to address inequalities in education globally. We collaborate closely with Utrecht University’s Dynamics of Youth strategic theme.
Contesting Governance
The Contesting Governance Platform brings together researchers from across Utrecht University who share a profound interest in the critical and interdisciplinary exploration of themes at the crossroads of governance, institutions, human rights, conflict and security.
Navigating Deep Transitions
A team of researchers and support staff is investigating how research and innovation practices can contribute to transformative system change. The team designs, launches and carries out projects leveraging a range of methods and techniques.
Just Transitions
Climate change is not purely a technical and environmental issue. It is just as much a social and economic challenge. As the world seeks to address climate change and transition to new ways of life, there is an increasing demand for what is called a ‘just transition’.
Other projects
In the past years, we have supported several so called ‘platform projects’, consisting of multidisciplinary project teams of researchers from Utrecht University.
