The renovation of Janskerkhof 13/13a is aimed at improving air quality, cooling and heating, as well as creating an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly environment. Advanced techniques and materials will be used to make the building more sustainable while preserving its historical character. The functionality of the building will also be considered. The building will be adapted to facilitate activity-based working, meaning flexible workplaces that respond to the diverse needs of employees. This is in line with the university's vision to create efficient and inspiring working environments.

Cooperation

Utrecht University is working closely with various parties to realise this project. The Property & Campus Directorate (V&C) coordinates the project and ensures coordination with various internal and external stakeholders. This includes the relocation of current users, temporary facilities for the ILS lab and the tender for the design and realisation phase.

Phasing and planning

Preparations have started for a large-scale renovation of the national monument, focusing on efficiency, sustainability and modernisation. The preparation phase of the project runs from the second quarter of 2024 to 2026. This phase includes drafting the programme of requirements, the design process and planning the relocation of current users.

The implementation phase is scheduled to start in 2027 and is expected to be completed in 2029.
