Q&A Renovation of Utrecht University Hall

Frequently asked questions about the renovation of the Utrecht University Hall.

Questions about the project

Why is the Utrecht University Hall being renovated?

Every year, the Utrecht University Hall attracts two hundred thousand visitors. As such, the Utrecht University Hall is busy throughout the year. This means that maintenance can only take place during the summer holidays and this short period does not allow for large-scale work. For several years now, it has been clear that the Utrecht University Hall, including the courtyard, courtyard, Faculty Club and the Pandhof (excluding the garden section), needs to be renovated to meet the requirements of the current time, vision and ambitions in the areas of sustainability, accessibility, inclusiveness and, at a limited level, spatial programming.

How long will the renovation take?

The implementation of the renovation is scheduled from the third quarter of 2026 to the third quarter of 2028. The exact schedule can be issued later once a contractor is found to carry out the renovation.

Will the Utrecht University Hall have the same function after the renovation?

Yes, the Utrecht University Hall on Domplein is and will remain the heart and face of Utrecht University. The renovation brings the building up to current requirements, vision and ambitions in areas such as sustainability, accessibility, inclusivity and, on a limited level, spatial programming.

Questions about the Faculty Club

Will the Faculty Club remain open during the renovation?

Yes, the Faculty Club will remain open, but at an alternative location. This location is not yet known. We are looking for a space with a kitchen in the centre of Utrecht. This will ensure that the Faculty Club's activities can continue as usual during the renovation of the Utrecht University Hall.

Where will Faculty Club activities take place during the renovation of the Utrecht University Hall?

It is not yet known. A space with a kitchen in the centre of Utrecht is being sought. This will ensure that the Faculty Club's activities can continue as usual during the renovation of the Utrecht University Hall.

Will the Faculty Club return to the Utrecht University Hall when the renovation is completed?

The space in the Utrecht University Hall where the Faculty Club sits will also be renovated. After the renovation, the Faculty Club will return to the same spot in the Utrecht University Hall.
