Funding categories

Individual – conference presentations

  • The student must provide his or her own contribution to the content of a conference, e.g. in the form of a presentation.
  • The student must make an individual financial contribution.
  • Attending a conference will only qualify for funding if no academic credit is awarded for such attendance.
  • The student must include a letter of recommendation from a teacher or study advisor with the application.
  • The student must include a copy of the invitation to the conference with the application.

Individual – innovative project
An individual may request funding for an innovative project. This project must (mainly) be aimed at Utrecht University students.
The applicant must have a clear project plan, which must include a budget evidencing how the project is financed, before submitting a funding request to the University Fund. This is because associations are less burdened by financial risk than individuals are. Plus, funding is limited to no more than five innovative projects per calendar year, so being able to submit a sound plan will increase your chances of having the funding requested awarded. What constitutes a project as 'innovative' is not easily delineated, which is why there is no exhaustive list of items that belong to this funding category. No funding requests may have previously been submitted for the project in question. If you have questions, please contact the student commission through studentencommissie@uu.nl.

Students organisations – conferences, symposia, lectures and debates
Funding awarded for this type of activity is dependent on the activity's number of participants, duration, aim, size and scientific content.

Student organisations – study trip
Funding awarded for this type of activity is dependent on the trip's number of study-related activities, destination, scientific character and duration. Only student exchanges that see students from Utrecht go abroad qualify for funding; foreign exchanges to Utrecht don't.

Student organisations – sport events
Funding awarded for this type of activity is dependent on the activity's number of participants, duration, location and professional set-up.

Student organisations – cultural
Two extra requirements apply to those mentioned above:

  • Visits to places of culture do not qualify for funding; funding may only be awarded for activities actually undertaken by students, e.g. producing a play or music piece.
  • The University Fund must be furnished two free entry tickets to the event funded.

The applicant must have a clear project plan, which must include a budget evidencing how the project is financed, before submitting a funding request to the University Fund. As no scenarios are available for innovative projects, sound and meticulous planning of such a project is essential. Plus only a limited number of innovative projects receive funding during any one calendar year, so being able to submit a sound plan will increase your chances of having the funding requested awarded.
