The Asian elephant is threatened with extinction. The number one cause of death of young elephants is the Elephant Endotheliotropic Herpes Virus (EEHV). This viral disease is particularly complex and there is no vaccine or effective treatment. Researchers from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine want to do something about this. Friends of VetMed, a named fund of the Utrecht University Fund, enlists the help of donors to help make rapid diagnosis possible and enable research for a vaccine and treatment.
